CO₂ (carbon dioxide) is used as a power source for airsoft guns, usually in the form of 12g CO₂ cartridges that are placed in the magazine or grip of the gun.

Advantages of CO₂ for airsoft:

Higher pressure and power – CO₂ has a higher gas pressure than Green Gas, resulting in higher FPS and stronger blowback.
Performs better in cold temperatures – Unlike Green Gas, CO₂ maintains good performance in cold weather because it’s less sensitive to temperature drops.
Realistic blowback – CO₂ blowback pistols often have stronger recoil, enhancing the realistic shooting experience.
Suitable for heavy metal parts – Because CO₂ is more powerful, it’s ideal for full-metal airsoft pistols and rifles.
Longer lifespan per cartridge – A single CO₂ cartridge can often fill multiple magazines, depending on the gun and efficiency.

Disadvantages of CO₂ for airsoft:
❌ Higher wear and tear – Due to the higher pressure, internal parts wear out faster than with Green Gas. Regular maintenance is essential.
❌ No built-in lubrication – Unlike Green Gas, CO₂ does not contain silicone oil, so you need to apply extra lubrication to keep your gun well-maintained.
❌ More expensive gas source – CO₂ cartridges are often more costly than a bottle of Green Gas and must be replaced after use.
❌ Sometimes too powerful for indoor airsoft – Some CO₂ guns can have FPS values that are too high for indoor fields, making them not always allowed.
